Walk the magnificent beaches of Kerry on The Wild Atlantic Way
Banna Blue Flag Beach – A beach that extends for many miles with magnificent views, this is certainly a walkers paradise with views of the mountains of the Dingle Peninsula, Kerry Head and Maulin Mountains while directly to sea you can see Mucklaghmore Rock. The wonderful sand dunes are a designated area of conservation with an abundance of rare plants and animals to be found for the wildlife enthusiast, while also proving a popular surfing location . Children will love the endless stretch of beach, perfect for sandcastles with a wide choice of sea-shells and some lovely little rock pools to explore while the sand dunes offer much shelter to enjoy picnics by the sea-shore.
Fenit Beach – Fenit is a sheltered an sandy beach located in County Kerry. It is ideal for bathing and swimming and has great facilities including a large car park, toilets, picnic tables and a nearby playground. The beach lies within the Tralee Bay and Magharees Peninsula, West to Cloghane Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and proposed Natural Heritage Area (pNHA). Fenit is lifeguarded during the summer and more information can be found on the noticeboard located at the beach.
Ballyheigue Blue Flag Beach – Ballyheigue is part of a 10km stretch of sandy beach which is backed by sand dunes. It is located within the Akeragh, Banna and Barrow Harbour Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and proposed Natural Heritage Area (pNHA), as well as the Tralee Bay Complex Special Protection Area (SPA). It runs from the village of Ballyheigue for over 3kms until it reaches the outlet from Lough Akeragh and is an ideal place for swimming, surfing, walking and other water sports activities. The beach is lifeguard patrolled during the bathing season and more information can be found on the notice board located at the beach.
Derrymore Beach – Derrymore Beach is located just a few miles from Tralee in County Kerry. It is a stunning sandy beach, ideal for walking. Derrymore Island is located to the east of Derrymore Strand and is home to a nature reserve supporting many rare plants communities. It is also an important high-tide roosting area for shore birds.
Inch Beach – Inch Beach was chosen by David Lean as the beach location for “Ryan’s Daughter”, while the film “Playboy of the Western World” was shot entirely at Inch. It is three miles of beautiful white sandy beach and is very popular all year round. This beach is a safe environment for all types of water sports including surfing, kayaking, windsurfing and kite surfing. There is excellent bass fishing at Inch Strand, Bunaneer Strand and Minard Strand, all in the Inch – Annascaul area. Lifeguards are on duty during the bathing season and more information can be found on the notice boards located at the beach.
Rossbeigh Beach – Rossbeigh Beach is a beautiful extending for over 7 miles (11 Kilometres). It is a wonderful location for swimming, water sports and walking. There is also the opportunity to go horse riding on the beach. It is located near the village of Glenbeigh. A lifeguard is on duty during the bathing season and further information can be found on the noticeboard which is located at the beach.
